Minimal Impact

Minimal Impact is a response to our disposable culture—one that too often discards materials, people, and ideas once they are no longer considered useful. Through this body of work, I examine both contemporary society and my own artistic practices, challenging how we assign value and what we ultimately do with the things we create.

Originally developed as part of a two-person exhibition with painter Lynne Adams, Minimal Impact has evolved into an ongoing exploration of these concerns.

In this work, I seek to impart meaning and value to materials once considered waste—not as commodities, but as catalysts for change. Discarded elements such as junk mail envelopes, used aluminum foil with food stain and label traces, and worn blotter paper are incorporated to build texture, construct surfaces, or function as visible elements within the work.

Digging deeper, Minimal Impact reflects broader social realities. In contemporary society, many individuals feel marginalized or cast aside. This work draws a parallel between environmental neglect and human experience, offering a lens through which both can be reconsidered. Ultimately, this work extends beyond my role as an artist. It invites shared responsibility, participation, and awareness—asking not only how we see and feel, but how we value, and how we choose to engage with what remains.
